The Rose of Texas Fair was an extraordinary event that took place on December 9,2011 at the historic Uptown Marble Theater in Marble Falls, TX. The Texas Guitar Women – with a couple of guest members for the affair, backed up several Texas Female Artists in a benefit for Highland Lakes Family Crisis Center in Marble Falls and the Hill Country Children’s Advocacy Center. This event was initiated by Texas Hill Country Singer/Songwriter Penny Ney and with the help of Ruby Dee, the two ladies pulled off one hell of an amazing afternoon of music. I can honestly say, although I’ve performed at several other events focusing on women performers, I have never been part of an ALL FEMALE LINEUP and BAND. It was an incredible experience.
The Texas Guitar Women are all extraordinary musicians. Lisa Pankratz on drums and background vox, Sarah Brown on bass, Rose Sinclair on steel, Shelley King on rhythm guitar and background vox and Mandy Marie Luke on lead guitar. Whew! That’s layin’ it down right there. Ruby Dee, Penny Ney, Teri Joyce, Meagan Tubb, Shelley King, Tina Wilkins, Emily Herring, Mandy Marie Luke and myself all performed three songs. The Texas Guitar Women learned material for all the ladies and this included Country, Folk, Rock, Rockabilly, Soul, Blues and Bluegrass. All the sets morphed from one genre to the other seamlessly as one by one, each lady took the stage and knocked it out of the park.
Our esteemed Hosts for the affair were none other than Texas Radio Personalities Miss Pearl from KOOP Austin, TX and Big G from AM1230 Kerrville, TX.
Our Special Guest Stage Hand was none other than Dave Maisiano from Radio Free Texas.

I had a great time doing my set with Mandy Marie Luke…
All in all, it was a show I will never forget. It was a chance to see and hear some old friends and to make new ones. Penny Ney and Ruby Dee did an amazing job and we all felt in our hearts grateful to be part of the fundraiser and to make music with each other.
Go do some surfin’…
Kickass Music Women? Indeed. Until next time, ladies!
